Ezra (UK)
South Wales band Ezra have been around for some while, having released two albums on the Cyclops label during the 1990s. Fronted by singer / guitarist Andy Edwards, whose other projects include The Fyreworks album (with Rob Reed of Magenta) and last years’ star-studded Progaid project. However, it is the stunning “Songs From Pennsylvania”, released on the F2 label in 2006 that has brought them to our attention, and won them the opening slot at this years’ Summers End Festival. The band are best described as perky, song-orientated progressive rock, and listeners will hear influences as wide as Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, and contemporary indie music in their sound – sometimes hard edged, other times laid back and serene. Edward’s guitar, in particular suggests both Dave Gilmour and Steve Howe – often in the same song. A very summery band to blow off the cobwebs at the start of Summers End!
